Everyone loves a great T-shirt design. But the question is, what makes for a great design? What makes a T-shirt that people will want to wear all over again without getting tired?
Some of the greatest designs are simple. But even the most simple designs need to do some things right– and avoid the most common mistakes– to achieve that greatness.
Tshirt embroidery in Stuart is a hugely popular whether you're an illustrator, graphic designer or typographer, the idea of putting your designs on T-shirts can be hugely appealing However, the process can be daunting.
Let’s unwind to avoid the most common mistakes made while designing a T-shirt!
Sizing:
There must be plenty of things in your life which don’t require sizing at all. But when it comes to a T-shirt, it matters a lot. Whatever the size you select, should be based on the nature of the design, and the properties of the garment to be printed. There should be some thought put into it.
Before checking the size, do you consider if one size does fit all? Depending on the size range of your garments, and the size of your order, you may want to consider using a reduced size print for the smaller items, such as ladies and youth.
Placement:
The design could be so amazing that it turns heads, but the most common mistake you may commit is getting the placement wrong, and heads will be turning for the wrong reason. If your design is in a standard print location such as full front or full back, l make sure the placement is also standard and will work across your entire garment’s type and size.
Composition:
The composition is something that has been taught to all of us since the high school times, every design has elements that are arranged in relation to each other, and this relation is what makes up the overall composition. A well-designed composition can be a matter of opinion, but the basic composition rules can improve a design dramatically when followed.
Image Quality
T-shirt embroidery in Stuart is widely used, but people often forget to get the right print of the image by maintaining the quality. You must keep in mind that low-resolution images have been compressed, sometimes more than once, and have visible artifacts, and sometimes there are instances where you can’t see these artifacts unless you zoom in. Ideally, photographs should be scanned at a high resolution for best results.
Colors
Making color choices are an essential part and require effort too. You should be thinking about colors from the moment you start designing as colors actually fill life in the design and the work you do.
Borders, Masks & Edges
A photo just sitting on a shirt with plain edges can result in all in a boring look or even cheap and unprofessional. An easy solution to this is simply “putting a border on it”! There are lots of options when it comes to borders and edges. The most simple by integrating a thin white or black border, which can instantly improve the appearance. You could go with more of a frame, which is a thicker border, sometimes with beveled edges or fancy details, giving your shirt embroidery a bolder look.
A “knock out” is where the background is erased entirely or cut out from the background, leaving the focus entirely on the subject. This can make a huge difference, especially if there are unwanted elements in the background.
If you don’t use Photoshop or another image editing tool, and you’re interested in any of these treatments, you can also try to have hand illustrations, if you are good with your drawing, concept and of course, implementing the idea!
