Separating Myths From Facts: Things You Need To Know About Tobacco!



Quitting smoking is the most important thing a smoker has to do in order to maintain an overall health being. Myth:

It is true that smoking cigarettes does causes lung cancer but it can also result in more diseases which might include heart disease, COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), other tobacco-related cancers and less common harmful effects such as premature birth and house fires are also attributed to smoking. Smoking tobacco is said to be extremely harmful for the esophagus, throat, larynx, mouth, kidney, bladder, liver, stomach, pancreas, cervix, colon and rectal cancer.


Myth:

Cigarettes and tobacco smoke causes 100,000 premature deaths per year in the U.S., which is much more than the annual deaths caused by accidents.

Fact:

It is true that annual motor vehicle and gun-related fatalities, which tally’s around 33,000 deaths per year, pale in comparison, close to half a million people die prematurely every year in the U.S. because of cigarette smoking and exposure to tobacco smoke. Of those, about 36 percent (approximately 173,000) are from cancer.


Myth:

Other types of tobacco products are not harmful the way cigarettes are.

Fact:

Each and every inhaling product involves tobacco and nicotine which are said to be harmful for the health and increases the risk of lung, throat and many such cancer tissues. Various alternative forms of tobacco/nicotine such as e-cigarettes, vaping, hookahs or marijuana are often perceived as not harmful or less harmful than cigarette smoking, but unfortunately that is not true.


Myth:

The main risk to pregnant women who smoke is premature delivery.

Fact:

Firstly, it is important to note that the use of tobacco has grown over time as the growth of tobacco shops in Denver has increased, but it is hard to accept that it results in premature delivery, although the truth is, it makes harder for the women to conceive who smoke. Smoking during pregnancy also increase the risk of miscarriage, low birth rate, sudden death of infant syndrome and more.


Myth:

Once a smoker has smoked for a while, his or her system is already permanently damaged.

Fact:

Quitting produces immediate positive results for the smokers. As soon as you quit, it returns your blood pressure, heart rate, circulation and function of lungs back to normal. Smokers who quit smoking have a better sense of well-being and serve as positive role models for their families by making healthier choices rather than people who smoke.


Myth:

Smoking is cool.

Fact

Men who smoke have a greater risk of erectile dysfunction as compared to those who do not smoke.
