Bath tubs are a place for people to relax and calm down. One could need relaxng from a long day at work or maybe just need to spend some luxury time. Walk-in bathtubs are a better option when it comes to bathtubs and offer a little more luxury.
It is advised that when executing a walk-in tub installation in Denver, and before moving in the new unit, measure the empty space the old unit left and ensure the measurement is enough. Also check if any fixtures need to be removed temporarily for the new unit to be fit in. In most cases, there is ample space for the units to be removed and fit in without any extra removals of any kind.
Below is a detailed step by step guide to installing a walk in bathtub
Install Ledger Board
Figure out where the top of the flange will hit the wall studs and mark it. Measure dow from one inch from the mark and make another mark. Use a four foot level and extend extend the mark onto all studs that will rest against it and all of the framing involved as well. Attach a 2x4 piece of wood that will make the top and bottom marks level. The piece of wood can be secured in place using drywall screws with the help of a drill. This board will support the tub edges.
Install Shoe Fitting
The drain lines removed from the underside and over flow of the old tub are to be installed in the new tub. Easiest way to do this is to lay the tub on its side. In case the measurements between the old and new tub do not match, some adjustments might need to be made and this would involve adding a piece of pipe. In most cases, it fits perfectly and no alterations are needed. Use plumber’s putty for this job.
Install Mortar
Once the mortar is mixed, use a trowel and spread it across the sub floor where the tub will be installed. The width of the mortar should be 2 inches wide. Be sure to not get any mortar in the drain line and once the application of mortar is completed, remove the rag from the drain pipe that was put in while mortar application.
Install the Walk-in Tub
It is time for the walk-in tub to be put in place. Get some help for this part since this will help avoid any unwanted damage to the tub or other fittings or the wall. Set the tub down in it’s designated area and be sure to see that the shoe fitting lines up perfectly with the drain line that comes up from underneath it. Make sure the tub edges should be on the ledger boards. Remove excess mortar that may be coming out from the tub’s edges.
Level and Secure the Tub
Use the four foot level to along the top front of the tub and install shims as needed to level the unit from right to left. Use the torpedo level on the end ledge and level the tub from back to front. Once again install shims as required. When it is secured, install the shims into the tub flange with the help of galvanized screws. Using a drill in this case might help you better and make the job easier and faster.
Secure the Drain
Once the tub is nailed down in place, secure the drain to the shoe fitting through the access hole in the adjacent wall or the hole in the ceiling underneath.
Installing the Faucets
Install the new faucets or those removed from the old tub and normally be accomplished by just a screwdriver.
